Best Photography Locations in Venice, Italy

Venice is an absolute dream for photographers, and for good reason! This city is so beautiful, every corner you turn is a new beautiful spot to photograph, but these are my favorites!

1.Ponte di Rialto

For this specific view, walk away from the bridge on the North/West entrance, and turn right down a street called Naranzaria, and then right again to walk along the water. There's a long dock there along the water that curls around the building and offers a great view of the Rialto Bridge.

2. Top of the Rialto Bridge

Once you've gotten your photos looking at the bridge, don't forget to snap shots from the top of the bridge, with views down the canal. This is a beautiful spot as well!

3. Riva degli Schiavoni

Usually quite busy during the day, this place is a great spot to photograph for sunrise or sunset. In my opinion, this is the best place to view the Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute, and it's also where a lot of gondoliers dock their boats. This spot is specifically 45°26'00.6"N 12°20'28.4"E.

4. Dernamaria Pier

Now on Google maps as "Dernamaria S.r.l. Unipersonale", this is the Instagram famous wooden pier, and is still relatively unknown. It was completely quiet there when I photographed it at mid-morning in August.

5. Ponte de Canonica

One bridge north of the Bridge of Sighs, this is a great place to snap a shot of the famous bridge.

6. Ponte Della Paglia

Right across from the previous spot, this is also a great spot to photograph the Bridge of Sighs, although it's a bit more crowded, so you definitely need to get there early!

7. Ponte de Canonica (facing North)

If you turn North (away from the Bridge of Sighs), you'll be able to watch and snap pictures of gondoliers both rowing and resting on their breaks.

8. Palazzo Contarini del Bovolo

Such a beautiful and underrated spot, this beautiful tower has great views and lovely arched windows. This spot requires a ticket to visit, booked for €8.

9. Piazza San Marco

One of the most famous spots in Venice, but it was mostly empty when I was there at 8am. The basilica is beautiful, and so fun to photograph!

10. Burano

Take the water bus over to the island of Burano for the day, and snap as many pictures as you can of this colorful fishing community! There are no wrong spots, it's all so beautiful. Please just be very aware that this is a small community where people live, so make sure to always be respectful and aware of your surroundings.

11. Libreria Acqua Alta

One of the more touristy spots on this list, this one is a bit hit or miss. The day I went was a bit of a miss (below is the best picture I could manage being rushed through the number of tourists that were there), but I've seen some really amazing photographs of this location. Like most spots, I would imagine that getting there either early in the day or late would be the best for avoiding crowds!

12. Nearly every street and canal...

If I'm being honest, the best way to photograph the city is simply by exploring it. Venice is great for finding beautiful side streets, and so much of the city is picturesque, that one of my favorite things to do was to go for a wander with my camera!
